Collection Description & Creator Information
- Description:
This collection of religious ephemera comprises materials from all over Latin America, with the exception of Cuba. The materials include church bulletins, evangelical tracts, song books, educational items, serials, pamphlets, flyers, and research papers. This religious collection has a broader scope than previously assembled ones, for it covers not only an impressive number of countries - from the large Latin American nations to the tiny Caribbean island states and protectorates; it also includes a wide range of religious affiliations as well as religious art, music, and philosophical thought - from Catholic and Protestant materials to ecumenical, syncretist, and spiritist treaties. In addition to the Spanish and Portuguese publications, the collection also includes materials written in English, French, French-Creole, German, Jiddish, Dutch, and a small number of indigenous languages. Items are organized alphabetically by region and country, type of religious affiliation, publishing organization, and title. While the date range covered in this extensive collection spans 165 years, the bulk of the items was published between 1960 and 2010.
