- Scope and Contents
The collection consists of correspondence between Pirandello and the Italian actress Marta Abba, who spent much of her life interpreting his plays. Pirandello's forty-three plays, as well as other literary works, are discussed in the correspondence, which reveals the special "maestro-disciple" relationship shared by the couple. She died in 1988.
His original letters are listed below (Boxes 1-6). Abba retained the originals of her letters to him, but supplied the photocopies noted in Boxes 7 and 8.
