The files were created as Google docs in the Google Drive platform; when the files were downloaded by the processing archivist, however, they were converted to Microsoft Word and Excel formats.

- Scope and Contents
The Students for Prison Education and Reform (SPEAR) records consist of documents used by the leadership team of the organization to advance its mission including meeting minutes, planning documents, documents that outline the goals and aspirations of the organization, and materials relating to the organizational structure of the group. The files were created and utilized by SPEAR members in the Google Drive platform; when the files were downloaded by the processing archivist, however, they were converted to Microsoft Word and Excel formats.

Students for Prison Education and Reform
Students for Prison Education and Reform (SPEAR) is a student organization that works to empower students to advocate for prison reform on issues such as mass incarceration, educational opportunities for prisoners, solitary confinement, the death penalty and related issues. SPEAR has five committees that work to advance its mission: events, education, research, advocacy, and communications.
- Acquisition:
The records were donated by the SPEAR organization in December 2015 (accession number AR.2015.110) as part of the Archiving Student Activism at Princeton (ASAP) initiative. Additional records were donated in April 2016 (accession number AR.2016.037).

Appraisal was conducted according to Mudd Manuscript Library policies and procedures.

- Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
