Abstract
Consists of selected papers of the Frederick T. Brown family, which originated in Ohio but at various times lived in Indiana, Minnesota, and New Jersey.

- Description:
The collection consists of selected papers of the Frederick T. Brown family, which originated in Ohio, but at various times lived in Indiana, Minnesota, and New Jersey. Included are letters by Brown (Princeton Class of 1845) to his children, sermons, notes on his ancestry, a document appointing him chaplain (1862) of the U.S. Hospital at Georgetown, D.C., signed by Abraham Lincoln, and Presbyterian newspapers ( New Orleans Protestant, 1846-47, Presbyterian Standard, 1865) containing articles by Brown. Also present are letters by son Frederick Walworth Brown (Princeton Class of 1897), letters by daughter Mary Lanier Brown, a scrapbook compiled by her including photographs taken on a trip to Mexico in 1897, and letters, photographs, and miscellaneous papers of other members of the Brown family.

- Custodial History
Katherine S. Pearce (now deceased), a niece of Frederick Walworth Brown and former employee of Princeton University Library, began donating Brown family papers to the Library in 1951 and made many subsequent gifts until 1982. These different accessions were then gathered together to form the present collection.

In 2022, restrictions on the Abraham Lincoln document where researchers were required to use a surrogate were lifted as part of a restrictions review project.
