Pantomime Play Productions – Set and Prop Lists, mid 1800s

Comprises set lists and prop lists for various pantomime play productions. There are over 35 set and prop lists, for pantomimes such as Dame Trot and Her Comical Cat, Asphodel or the Magic Pen, Mother Goose, Raoul, Jack and the Beanstalk, Red Gnome and the White Warrior, the Schoolmaster, Little Boy Blue, Dechalumeau, and other pantomimes. The manuscripts appear to be from the about the mid-19th century, with two items specifically dated 1866 April 28 and 1869 December 10, and the latter noted as being performed in Washington, D.C.

Notebook Containing Sketches of Indigenous Clothing, Weaponry, and Other Material Culture, circa mid- to late-1800s

Consists of a notebook containing hundreds of illustrations of historic fashion and wardrobe studies from the mid- to late-1800s. The majority of the pages are filled with diagrams and written notes of the clothing from different Indigenous groups such as the Apache, Blackfoot, Cherokee, Choctaw, Pawnee, and Sioux people. Specialized dress, accessories, and tools are shown for Cheyenne buffalo hunting, Comanche horsemanship, Sioux dance and sports, and Pawnee ranking.

Two Photographs of Pueblo Native Americans in Tesque, New Mexico, circa late 1800s

Consists of two cabinet cards. One of the cabinet cards is mounted on cardstock with the debossed name of the photography studio: W. E. Hook Wholesale View, of Colorado Springs, CO. The photograph shows a group of women and children, mostly children, standing in front of a house. There is an inscription in negative at the bottom left of the photograph: "Pueblo Indians, Tesuqua, N. M." The donor included some identifying description of the women in the photograph, including Anastasia Romero, Benita Romero, and Francicita Romera. The second photograph shows buildings in a village with donkeys and/or mules in the foreground. The inscription in negative at the bottom reads, "Tesuque Indian Village A.T. + S.F.R.R."

Engravings and Drawings Related to Mormon History, circa 19th century

Consists of a group of engravings and drawings related to Mormon history. There are drawings of the houses of Brigham Young and Joseph Smith, the Nauvoo Temple, and the Nauvoo Expositor office. There are also engravings depicting numerous famous Mormon figures and their homes. The creators/collectors of these materials are unknown.

The University Land Records consist of deeds, mortgages, bonds, other legal papers, and maps concerning the acquisition, disposition, or description of University properties. The records document the physical expansion of the University from its earliest period through the acquisition of large tracts of land in the 20th century, including the properties around Carnegie Lake and numerous farms. A portion of the papers relate to research conducted by Professor Gerald Breese for his book Princeton University Land, 1752-1984 (1986).

The Morris L. Parrish Collection of Victorian Novelists, consisting of the library of books, manuscripts, photographs, artwork, and ephemera as collected by Morris Longstreth Parrish, Class of 1888, came to Princeton University in 1944 as a bequest. This finding aid focuses on Parrish's original collection of manuscripts, both bound and unbound, and includes his correspondence (related to his collecting activities) and letters both to and from many of the Victorian authors, as well as the manuscript and related (non-book) items given to and/or acquired for the collection by the Princeton University Library in subsequent years.

The album contains illustrations (primarily proof engravings) by Frederick Walker (1840-1875) and William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863), likely comprising the collection of J. G. Marks and annotated by him with title and other contextual information. The volume contains proofs of Frederick Walker's contributions to various periodicals and other items by him, as well as some text and drawings by William Makepeace Thackeray relating to his The Adventures of Philip, as serialized in Cornhill Magazine in 1861-1862, with relevant proofs.

This collection consists of virtually all of the surviving records of Scribners (1846-1984), the New York City publisher, and reflect aspects of all of its publishing functions (soliciting and acquiring books, editing manuscripts, printing and manufacturing books, advertising and publicizing publications) and business concerns (book and magazine publisher, retail bookstore, subscription books department, educational books department, printing press and bindery, rare books department). Included are files of editorial correspondence with authors, manufacturing records about book production, advertising records, author contracts, a collection of dust jackets, book catalogs, ledgers, and photographs. While there are gaps in most of the series or record groups, there are records representative of all of the firm's former permutations: Baker & Scribner, Charles Scribner & Co., Scribner, Armstrong & Co., Scribner, Armstrong & Welford, Scribner & Co., Charles Scribner's Sons. The bulk of the material (1880s-1970s), however, dates from the period when the publisher bore its most familiar name, "Charles Scribner's Sons." There is also material related to early publishers' organizations and international copyright.
