The collection documents the career of Richard Rush (Princeton Class of 1797) as lawyer, statesman, and diplomat, emphasizing diplomatic negotiations between the United States and Great Britain while he was minister to Great Britain (1817-1825) and between the United States and France when he was minister to France (1847-1849), as well as his successful efforts (1836-1838) in securing the Smithsonian bequest, which was used to establish the Smithsonian Institution. The papers of Richard Rush constitute the larger part of the collection; letters of his father, Benjamin Rush, M.D. (Princeton Class of 1760), and papers of his son, Benjamin Rush (Princeton Class of 1829, constitute the other major groups of papers in this family archive.

The papers of William A. Eddy (1896-1962), educator, diplomat, minister to Saudi Arabia, intelligence agent, and college president, focus on his presidency of Hobart College (1936-1941), his work in U.S. - Middle East policy, and his family life in the period from 1917-1962. The holdings of his personal and family correspondence is extensive. The collection contains all correspondence from his term as president of Hobart College, 1936-1941. Many military documents are included, especially in the years 1941-1946 (the planning of the North African landings, the FDR/Ibn Saud meeting, the Treaty of the Yemen). There are many geneological papers and letters from Eddy's relatives concerning American missionary work in the Middle East. There are numerous publications concerning 18th C. English literature, religious and civic duties, U.S. Foreign policy re Israel and the Arabs, and sociological accounts of the Middle East. The collection is composed of personal/professional correspondence, documents, diaries and notebooks, addresses, publications, manuscripts of Eddy's books and articles (including unpublished MSs), scrapbooks, photographs, negatives, and memorabilia.

The Student Records series contains the academic records of individual Princeton University students. The type and amount of information recorded about each student changed frequently from Registrar to Registrar, and as such the Student Records series contains several different forms of student academic data ranging from yearly course grades to attendance records to full academic transcripts. The most common forms of student records include scholastic cards, which contain the courses taken and grades awarded to students by term, and registration cards, which contain basic biographical information at the time of entrance to the University and the results of entrance examinations.

Series 2: Correspondence, 1810-1992

The Correspondence Series includes letters, notes, and telegrams from a variety of individuals, usually to or from Woodrow Wilson (although some correspondence is between others and is related to Wilson). Perhaps the most notable portion of this series is the Wilson family correspondence, including letters between Wilson and his first wife, Ellen Axson Wilson, from their courtship through the end of her life in 1914, as well as correspondence to and from his daughters Jessie and Margaret, and his brother-in-law Stockton Axson. This series also includes a "Special Correspondence Collections" section, which contains shorthand notebooks of Wilson letters recorded by his secretary, Gilbert Close, as well as correspondence collections of other individuls close to Wilson, including Lawrence Woods, David Huston, and Mary Hulbert, as well as the Thackwell collection of correspondence between Woodrow family members and especially between Woodrow Wilson and his cousin, Harriet Woodrow. These collections include letters to and from Wilson and others. The final section of the Correspondence Series includes copies of letters in other collections.

Also included in this series is the Henry Bragdon Collection of Reminiscences (made up of interviews and correspondence on Wilson), papers of Laura Turnbull, the Curator of the Woodrow Wilson Collection, on her work for Woodrow Wilson: A Selected Bibliography of his Writings, Addresses, and Public Papers, and some files of the Woodrow Wilson Foundation. Subseries 1A: Organizational Files, 1829-1981

The Organizational Files Subseries documents Pendray's involvement with the American Interplanetary Society (later renamed American Rocket Society), the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the Guggenheim Foundation. The material pertaining to the American Interplanetary Society consists of financial documents, internal correspondence, meeting minutes, annual reports, published journals, photographs and sketches related to rocket tests, pamphlets, and newspaper clippings. The history of early rocket technology and some of the first experimental rockets are well-documented here. The bulk of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics related material consists of correspondence. Additional American Rocket Society material and a history of the AIAA's G. Edward Pendray Award are included also. The Guggenheim Foundation documents pertain to Pendray's involvement in establishing several aviation research centers. The bulk of the NASA related documents are printed materials that document NASA's developmental years.
