The World Press Freedom Committee (1976-2009) was an organization dedicated to monitoring threats to press freedom, focusing on major intergovernmental organizations, especially UNESCO. The WPFC served as a watchdog against limitations on press freedom and provided practical assistance programs to journalists abroad, especially in developing countries, to enable them to establish and maintain a free press. The World Press Freedom Committee Records document the administration and activities of the WPFC for its entire period of operations and include project files, meeting minutes, correspondence, and publications.
Series 1: Administrative Files, 1948-2009
The Administrative Files series documents the founding and operations of the WPFC, including minutes of the Biennial meetings and Executive Committee meetings, press releases, annual reports (entitled "What We Did"), and correspondence, notably letters in protest of violations of freedom of the press and "fan mail" from individuals appreciative of the efforts of the WPFC. The series also contains copies of WPFC publications, including handbooks for journalists, reports, working papers, and lecture series, as well as publicity pamphlets for the WPFC and WPFC histories, declarations of free press, and amicae briefs. Also included are recordings of television appearances by WPFC members and of conferences, and materials related to International Press Freedom Day, begun in 1991 by UNESCO.

Women's World Banking (WWB), one of the world's leaders in microenterprise financing, is a not-for-profit international financial institution founded by a global group of independent women working together with the support of the United Nations in 1979. The Women's World Banking mission is to facilitate the participation of poor women entrepreneurs in the modern economy at the local level, especially those who are generally without access to established financial institutions. The organization consists of an international network of affiliates (independent local institutions that provide a variety of financial and training services to meet the needs of local women) with a central coordinating office in New York City. W. Willard (Bill) Wirtz was a lawyer, an arbitrator, a law professor, and served as undersecretary and secretary of labor under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. He was a speechwriter for, and close advisor to, Adlai Stevenson from 1952 to 1960. The W. Willard Wirtz Collection on Adlai Stevenson documents Stevenson's campaigns for president in 1952 and 1956, as well as Stevenson's political activities in 1960 and in between campaigns. Because Wirtz was a speechwriter in 1952, in charge of speech content in 1956, and a close advisor and occasional speechwriter at other times, this collection most strongly documents the campaign activities of drafting speeches and fine-tuning campaign policy.

The David Wilkinson Papers consists of the scientific writings, professional correspondence, and subject and project files of David T. Wilkinson (1935-2002), the renowned experimental physicist and cosmologist who taught and conducted research in the Department of Physics at Princeton University from 1963 until his retirement in 2002. Wilkinson was a pioneer in the study and analysis of cosmic microwave background radiation, the nature and existence of which have yielded, through his lifetime's work, solid evidence for the Big Bang theory of the universe's birth. This collection contains the administrative (including his NASA and/or National Science Foundation funding and accounting paperwork) and background history of two of Wilkinson's main projects -- the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) and Microwave Anisotropy Probe (MAP) -- as well as evidence of the many and varied academic activities in his career.

Quarterly Review of Literature (QRL) Records, 1943-2000
Consists primarily of the issue and correspondence files of the independent literary journal of the same name that was founded in 1943 by Warren Carrier, and co-edited and published from 1944-1999 by the husband and wife team of poet and former Princeton professor Theodore (Ted) and editor and author Renée Weiss. Also present in the collection are manuscripts of, and associated material from, eleven of Theodore Weiss's thirteen published books of poetry.
Series 1: QRL Issue Files, 1943-1999
Consists of the almost complete files (1943-1999) of manuscripts submitted to the QRL for publication with the exception of a few issues from 1944, 1945, 1974-1977, and 1981 (see the Box/Folder listing for Boxes 1-26 for the specific issues not present in the collection). The majority of the issue files (Volumes I-XXXVIII) contain original typescripts for the poetry, short stories, articles, and reviews that were published. Only some of the typescripts are signed or include autograph corrections by the author, while others include editorial corrections. Some files also contain galley proofs in various forms. The box housing the David Schubert issue files (Volume XXIV, 1983) contains correspondence from Schubert, his friends, wife, and others who contributed material to the publication of this special volume. The box containing the QRL's 50 th Anniversary issue manuscripts (Volume XXXII-III, 1993; specifically Folder 4 in Box 22) includes cover letters from the contributing authors. In addition, a small amount of author correspondence associated with the submitted manuscripts remains in the issue files. However, the bulk of the QRL correspondence is contained in Series 2. Please refer to the Author?Issue Index for an alphabetical listing of all the authors published in the QRL from 1943-1999, and the volumes in which they appeared. Photocopies of the table of contents page for each QRL issue (Volumes I to XXXVIII), as well as photocopies of indexes (where found) for Volumes I-XXII, are available in the Department's collection files for public reference.

Alexander D. Wainwright (Princeton Class of 1939) was an avid bookman and collector. He had a lengthy career at the Princeton University Library, serving as assistant university librarian for collection development and as curator of the Morris L. Parrish Collection of Victorian Novelists. His collection consists of of manuscripts, correspondence, drawings, and related material by and about Thomas Wolfe, the American novelist, playwright, and storywriter.

The collection contains edited typescripts and copies of Cuban writer Severo Sarduy's poems, essays, and translations, along with writings about Sarduy, interviews, notes, clippings, photographs, and other printed materials. Correspondence includes a group of postcards sent to Severo Sarduy and his partner François Wahl in the 1960s and 1970s from various European and Latin American writers and philosophers, including Roland Barthes, Alain Badiou, Reinaldo Arenas, Octavio Paz, and Jacques Lacan, and additional correspondence of French editor and structuralist François Wahl.
